Competition: Stroke, 1st Round Club Champs
No of Players: 22 Conditions: Fine and overcast
It was a lovely day at Royal and Ancient Two Wells Golf Club. Then we spoilt it by going out and playing golf. It was round 1 of the Club Champs and both grades are as open as they have ever been for someone to step up and take control. Early favourite for A Grade Stuart Grigg did just that and fired a fine 76/66 to take out A Grade and the early lead in the Club Champs. The field behind is fairly bunched up but at least 7 strokes behind after round 1.
B Grade was won by John Mills with 91/64 as well as taking out the Monthly Medal with that score. Unfortunately that was Johns first official card so he is not in the Club Champs race. That is a tight tussle with Ian Smith 91 narrowly leading Ian Clark 92, Ray Prior 95, Chris Barker 96, Blue Bowden and Hans Linford 98, so anything can happen in B Grade.
Next week is the 2nd round of the Club Championships.
