When I checked the weather forecast late Friday night and again Saturday Morning I thought wow we may actually get the long needed rain to generate the green coverage again.
21 Players challenged the gods to play in the 1st Round of the Captains Trophy in very windy conditions with the overcast skies and rain threatening later in the afternoon. I took the opportunity to play early with our regular Saturday Ladies Kathy Stubing and Julie Holland hoping to miss any rain.
The girls I can honestly say played extremely well in the conditions and Julie’s 36 could have been higher if not for that missing ball after hitting her third on the 4th. It hit the tree branches and not one of us saw it land. The girls also proving a great team on the 11th when they jointly dispatched a rather large spider which I think Julie suggested was around the 1 ft size in the toilet block. Kathy to the rescue with a magnificent drive of the seat with a small branch followed by a series of loud bands which even had Bobby Hogg looking across from the 9th. Kathy finished with a solid 34 Pts.
A Grade was won by Bobby Hogg with 37 Pts with Andrew Baker 2nd on 35 Pts sadly missing a good opportunity on the approach to the 18th (possibly mum watching him distracted the chip) and Jake Bowden 3rd with 34 Pts.
B Grade was a closely fought finish with Hans Linford winning the count back from Steve Kelly also on 37 Pts. Ian Clark winning a 3 way count back for 3rd from Darrell Thompson and Doug Burford all on 35 Pts.
Other Results were;
A Grade: J. Ball 30 and P. Shields 29 Pts
B Grade: G. Payne 33, A. Bail 33, J. Weir 32, J. Mills 32, I. Smith 31, A. Christou 31, C. Barker 30, J. Spackman 28 and D. Smith 23 Pts.
Next week is the annual Bob Oxlade Memorial Trophy stroke etc
